Restore, Migration & Reset

1-Click Restore During Onboarding#

If you are a returning user setting up Mudawim on a new browser or computer:

1. When prompted with the Profile Setup onboarding screen, click "Import Backup".
2. Select your backup file.
3. Mudawim verifies the backup and restores your entire learning profile, workspaces, courses, study streaks, and coins in a single click without requiring you to manually fill out the setup form again.

Importing a Backup File in Settings#

To restore or merge data at any time:

1. Open Settings > Data Management.
2. Click Import Backup File.
3. Select your mudawim_backup_*.json file.
4. A preview breakdown appears showing the number of courses, videos, notes, streak days, and coins found in the file.

Cryptographic Integrity & Tamper Safety#

Mudawim protects your study history against data corruption or file tampering:

• Each backup is signed with a digital cryptographic signature.
• When importing, Mudawim validates the file's integrity.
• If a backup file has been corrupted or modified, Mudawim displays a clear safety message (*"Cannot Restore Backup"*) and blocks import to prevent accidental database corruption.

Conflict Handling & Merging (Replace vs Merge)#

When importing a valid backup into an existing environment, you can choose between two modes:

• Replace All Data: Completely overwrites your local browser database with the backup snapshot. Ideal for full migrations to a new computer.
• Merge Data: Combines courses, notes, and streak coins from the backup with your existing workspaces without overwriting existing progress.

Resetting All Application Data#

If you wish to wipe all data and start completely fresh:

1. Go to Settings > Data Management.
2. Scroll to Danger Zone: Reset Application.
3. Type `DELETE` into the confirmation box.
4. Click Reset Application. All local storage is cleared and initialized to factory defaults.
